We're continuing to celebrate Women's History Month with another staff spotlight!

🌻 Meet Jessi: Jessi White is our Seed Bank Coordinator at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center joined our team almost a year ago, bringing her passion for native plants and experience in plant conservation to our Seed Bank. With a background in development and a love for exploring nature, she's found her calling in preserving the biodiversity of our precious Texas flora.

🌱 Roots and Inspiration: Hailing from the country outskirts of San Antonio, Texas, Jessi's childhood was filled with exploration and discovery in the great outdoors. Her journey into plant conservation began with volunteer work at The University of Texas at Austin Herbarium, which ignited her passion for native species and eventually led her to the Center.

📚 Reflecting on History: For Jessi, Women's History Month is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible contributions and resilience of women throughout history. She believes in amplifying women's voices and stories to inspire future generations.

💡 Advice for the Future: To young women pursuing their passions, Jessi's advice is simple yet profound: keep moving forward and never doubt yourself. Jessi hopes to pay it forward by empowering the next generation of female leaders.

⭐ Unstoppable Women: Jessi values the unwavering support and communal spirit of women. She believes that together, women are unstoppable, and she cherishes the bonds of sisterhood that uplift and inspire her every day. Jessi's mother, sister, and grandmother have all been an influential and inspirational part of her support system and journey in life.

🌼 Favorite Wildflowers: From the vibrant Indian paintbrushes (Castilleja indivisa) to the rare big red sage (Salvia pentstemonoides), each year, the ever-changing beauty of Texas wildflowers brings a new favorite for Jessi.

Join us in celebrating Jessi and the countless women who shape history and inspire us all!

We're continuing to celebrate Women's History Month by highlighting a few of the amazing women on our staff! Here's Elizabeth Standley, our Marketing Coordinator at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

⭐ Meet Elizabeth: Elizabeth has been an integral part of our Marketing and Communications Team for nearly three years. With a background in writing and editing for nonprofit and educational organizations, she brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her role.

🌱 Roots and Inspiration: Originally from Grapevine, Texas, Elizabeth's connection to the natural world and her admiration for Lady Bird Johnson's beautification efforts have deep roots in her upbringing. She draws inspiration from iconic women like Mrs. Johnson and the writer-director Nora Ephron, as well as her own daughter, who continually inspire her with their resilience and creativity.

📚 Reflecting on History: For Elizabeth, Women's History Month is a celebration of hard-won rights and a reminder not to take them for granted.

💡 Advice for the Future: Self-reflection, ethical inquiry, and curiosity are at the core of Elizabeth's values. As a mother raising a daughter, Elizabeth emphasizes the importance of staying true to one's self, and embracing curiosity and hard work.

🌼 Favorite Wildflowers: Elizabeth’s favorites change from year to year, but right now she’s admiring woolly globemallow (Sphaeralcea lindheimeri) with its contrast of the sage green leaves and the coral flowers. She also likes mealy blue sage (Salvia farinacea) with its lavender-like appearance, and unique plants like the Rio Grande globe amaranth (Gomphrena haageana) that look like something you'd find in a Dr. Seuss book.

Join us in celebrating Elizabeth Standley and the countless women who have shaped history and continue to inspire us every day!✨
